Warts are downright disgusting. People stare at them and it can be quite embarrassing to the one infected. But it happens to almost anyone, because they are highly contagious. The best way of treating warts is to prevent them from infecting you, although this is not entirely possible. So if you do get warts then you must treat them as soon as possible to avert the condition from getting worse. Below are some ways on how to treat warts and or preventing them from infecting you.

You must be aware that the HPV, the virus that causes warts, thrives in moist and warm environments. Public areas like swimming pool, showers, and locker rooms, may have the virus and when you walk barefoot in these areas, the virus will easily enter your skin. If your skin has scrapes and cuts, the virus can easily find its way into your skin cells. Direct contact with the HPV is enough to get infected and once you’re infected with the virus, you can also transmit it to other individuals. By simply sharing clothes, towels, and shoes, you can pass the virus to your family members and friends.

Warts heal in time but in the case of plantar warts, you might want to remove them immediately because it can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Genital warts should also be treated immediately because once it spreads to the cervix, it may lead to cervical cancer.

Other types of warts can be left untreated especially if it doesn’t give you any trouble or embarrassment, but if you want them to disappear as soon as possible, you must strive to have a healthy body. Boost your immune system by taking vitamin supplements. Try to eat right foods and have a healthy lifestyle.

Cost is one of the main factors in choosing a treatment. There are effective warts treatments in the market like laser methods and surgical methods but this often lead to scarring which will forever remind you of the warts. Salicylic acid is also well known for treating warts. It is inexpensive and less painful as compared to other treatment methods.

Some infected individuals opt for natural treatments like healing herbs and essential oils. Herbs like Echinacea, astragalus, lemon balm, and thyme are effective in removing warts; however, it might take several weeks before the warts completely disappear.

Essential oils like tea tree and castor oil are also known for removing warts effectively. These herbs and oils have anti bacterial and anti viral properties which makes them effective in treating any type of wart.

Topical ointments are also available over the counter, but their effectiveness varies with every individual. All these treatments depend on the reaction of the body and the extent of the infection. It would be wise to seek medical help if you have warts so that proper treatment can be administered.

You must also be aware that it is highly recommended and a must that you consult a medical professional first. If you try to cut off your warts on your own, you may lose a lot of blood and develop hideous scars. Also, you should know that even though the symptoms of warts are removed, the virus is still inside your body and can be triggered to cause more warts to develop in the future.

Knowing how to treat warts is must for those who are infected. However, as the saying goes, prevention is always better than cure.
